Puhleeeze!

If we can put something the size of a blue whale in the sky and get it to fly graciously,
If we can transport a molecule half way round the earth in the blink of an eye,
If we can walk on the moon,
If we can breathe liquid .....

A Hero and a Shero

Now that Chris and Nets have finished their preferred sponsored torture, I would like to thank them from the heart of my bottom for their nerve, generosity, care and dedication. I would also like to thank their spouses as well, no person is an island!
Both not only completed their events but also managed to increase their targets more than twice. Chris even got so excited he wore a pink shirt and has also given up alcohol for a year!
Karma can only be kind to you now, you both know what you mean to me, nuff said here.

Running not walking

In four weeks, my little sister will be shortening these very limbs even more!

Proving that sometimes even smart people can't read, she will be running in the 10k Mouth Cancer Charity Walk at Hyde Park in London.
Well done our kid! Ü xoxox

Buggery buggery bollocks!

On Tuesday I decided to be extremely brave and try drinking cloudy apple juice - apart from the recent discovery of being able to eat black cherries (season almost over now damn it), I have not been able to eat fruit or drink any juices for almost a year, to have done so would have been tantamount to drinking battery acid. Tuesday was a hot day peaking to 27 degrees in sunny Surrey and the thought of being able to drink a glass of fresh organic chilled apple juice had me almost beside myself in anticipation. I half filled a shot glass, dipped my finger in it and then onto my lips.
I immediately smelt the apple, it smelt fresh and crisply clean and refreshing, so far no burn! I gingerly took a tiny sip, no burn, a slightly bigger sip, no burn, finished the glass, coughed and spluttered a bit but no burn! I got a bigger glass and poured some more juice into it, I took a big sip, no burn, utter bliss. Finally something healthy and refreshing to drink, it is amazing what a difference it makes :0)

Bloody bloody ...

The other night I watched Julie & Julia, (thank you Thomas & Elke). Excellent film when you have concentration problems & are fixated on all types of food whether you can eat it or not! Excellent cinematography too on my tiny TV ;0)
I have so many films to watch it is untrue, my concentration is coming back gradually, I only hope that it comes back way before I have to go into hospital again so that we can watch some of them.
I stopped work on Monday, just until the treatment has finished & I am feeling better. I thought I would have lots of time to myself, but so far it has been a really busy week. I had to go to get a blood test on Tuesday, thought I would keep it simple & just book myself an appointment at one of the local health centres instead of going to Mayday & risking sitting for hours in the huge waiting room full of sick people.

Back in the jug agayne

Round 3 ding, ding! So, it is day two of five on S ward and nothing much to report except .... my pump, which pushes the dreaded clear liquid onto my vein, is held on a stalk with wheels ok? The one I was provided with yesterday had 5 wheels and 4 of them didn't move round in any useful direction.
Now, I like to break things up a little to try and get through the day quicker, I wheel my pump down to the canteen to have my dinner (that is lunch to you posh people), today was a very lovely bacon sarnie and a not quite so lovely (if they only used reall coffee beans), cappuccino.

Boring

Sorry I have been busy doing my 1:1 document for work, I have no words of wisdom to share today, I used up all my creativity in the document.

My arm is better but my throat is sore so mustn't talk at the moment, bit of a mare really, cos I find it hard to keep my gob shut at the best of times!

Watched Miss Congeniality again tonight, don't know why it has taken me so long to get it but now I completely understand why I keep getting mistaken for 'her', yes indeedy, we have the same surname and first initial! Sheesh ..... and you thought I was going to bring up my supermodel status didn't you? ;0)

Bragging and why it is not a good idea

Last week I told our lovely GP that I hardly ever get pain and was then struck down with lightning from the sky.
This week I told Ann that I have not been sick since Xmas I think or even before that and my pain seems to have gone - this morning, felt sick & then threw up, and I seem to have buggered up my 'bad' arm by pulling a muscle in it when I was mowing the lawns yeserday.

Hmpf ... I may give up talking to preserve my health

A tad embarassing ...

Ann, who is my newest and now my main Macmillan nurse, came to visit us last week to introduce herself , which was rather timely if you have read the post 'Farcical'.
She took down copious notes on my health history, from all my hospital stays (no my darling sisters, I did not tell her about falling down the stairs at 2 years old),  to my discovering my cancer last year and then more details pertaining to pain management, side effects, physical capabilities etc.

Annes' visit was also rather timely because the night before I had been seriously looking at those sketchers shape ups shoes (cheap version of the MBT shoes - Masai Barefoot Technology). I found a pair on Amazon which  a.) looked nice and b.) did not require me to re-mortgage the flat.

Miserable old git

The miserable old git who was probably the best boss I ever had in I.T., is raising money for me for Marie Curie by doing the Suffolk Coast Bike Ride on 07/08/2011 - he has already gone over his target because we are all pretty certain he can't do it & that he will have to pay us back. Time is running out though, so if you would like to sponsor him, please click on this link.  (Word of warning - please don't let small children stand next to you when you look at his site as his photo is clearly displayed)
Chris Aldred - Just Giving

Hmmm

Should I be worried that yesterday the only reason I didn't put the kettle in the fridge was because it was too big?  Then today I only just stopped myself before I watered my laptop instead of the plant next to it? At least I have accidental insurance cover I suppose ...

Farcical

5th July approx 14:00 - In excrutiating pain down right side of face from temple, through jawbone & down to neck.
Took the only painkillers I had, 10ml of calpol six plus and 10ml of codeine - this took the edge off the pain.

18:00 - Took more of the above
19:00 - Pacing now as the above had no effect
19:45 - Rang hospital ward, told sister D what meds I was on, she said it was a very small amount and I could have much more but it had to be confirmed by the on-call medical doctor; Sister passed on the information for the night  shift to contact the doctor after their, (doctors') meeting finished at 20:30
